Hot
Part four in my series for JackieDee's hot summer challenge!
After a meandering multi-day trek across the country, they finally reach the Jersey shore late on a Tuesday evening. For dinner they hit a drive-in burger joint on their way into town (complete with rollerskating carhops, much to everyone's delight). Once they're at their rental house, Dean and Cas claim the airy bedroom that comprises the entire top floor. Sam and Eileen take the master bedroom on the ground floor, with its en suite bathroom and Cali King mattress. Jack calls gleeful dibs on a colorfully canopied day bed on the screened-in lanai out back. They share tired smiles, then split up to unpack their duffels and crash for the night.
The next morning everyone sleeps in late, even Sam. By 10:30, though, people are drifting out of their rooms, poking around in the kitchen, and thinking about hitting the beach. Eileen disappears briefly and returns with hand pies from a bakery just down the street, hot from the oven and lush with local peaches. It takes some time to figure out how to work the rental's fancy coffee maker, but soon everyone is suitably breakfasted, acceptably caffeinated, and excited to start the first day of their beach adventure.
They rip the tags off their brand new bathing suits and slip into their dollar store flip flops. Cas supervises application of SPF50 sunscreen, muttering darkly about melanoma the entire time. (If he takes a little extra care in making sure Dean's is completely rubbed in, no one bothers to mention it.)
Jack shoulders the massive net bag of plastic sand toys he'd picked up at a Wal-Mart in Fort Wayne a couple days ago. Sam and Dean grab the oversized fleece blankets they always keep in the trunk. Eileen pulls a stack of towels out of the rental's well-stocked linen closet. Cas pours the rest of the coffee into a thermos and nestles it into a tote bag already filled with granola bars, beef jerky, and trail mix.
Their rental is several blocks from the beach, but it's a pleasant walk past quaint little shops and restaurants. They take note of places to visit later, but they don't dawdle today. The sun bakes them from above and below, heat radiating up from scorching sidewalks. By the time they reach the sand and spread out their blankets to stake their spot, everyone's ready for a refreshing dip in the ocean.

So Danno is thinking about how, one day, he’ll retire. Steve freaks and, when Danny says he wants to open a restaurant, Steve says, “I’m in.”
Then it gets difficult, and Steve remembers that he actually likes police work. So he wants to quit the restaurant. And he’s afraid Danny’ll be mad, but Danny just says, “If you quit, I quit.”
So they both quit.
Oh, and when Danno was shot and dreamt of the future he’d miss, it was: restaurant with Steve; Grace marrying Will; Charlie graduating from the police academy; Steve and Danno as old men, still kvetching on the lanai.

Fangtastic.
Donn Beach created many famous Tiki drinks. One of the less common ones is the Cobra's Fang. This is due to the fact that a proper Fang is made with fassionola syrup. Fassionola is a bright red, sweet syrup made from a mixture of fruit juices and was supposed to be the syrup used in the original Hurricane recipe. Today, only a couple companies make proper fassionola making it difficult to find. Grenadine and even Hawaiian Punch have been used as a substitute, but they are not the same. While researching a posting on fassionola syrup,I came across the Fang and decided it needed its own posting. Here is the classic Don the Beachcomber Cobra's Fang:
Mix #187 Cobra's Fang
1.5oz dark Jamaican rum 1/2oz 151 Demerara rum 1/2oz falernum 1/2oz lime juice 1/2oz orange juice 1/2oz fassionola syrup 1 dash absinthe 1 dash Angostura bitters
Flash blend with ice and pour into tall glass. Can also be shaken with ice.
Sweet and berry flavored, similar to a Hurricane but not as sweet. The falernum and absinthe add some spice to give it complexity, and the 151 gives it some punch. Think of this drink as a civilized Hurricane. A nice summer drink with layers of flavor that gives yo a nice buzz without completely slamming you.
Of course,as with most classic Tiki drinks, there have been many riffs made over the years. Here a few I've enjoyed.
Mix #188 Mai Kai Cobra Fang
1oz dark Jamaican rum 1oz aged Jamaican rum 3/4oz falernum 1/2oz fassionola syrup 1oz orange juice 3/4oz lime juice 1/4oz grenadine 1/4tsp absinthe* 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake with ice and pour into Zombie glass.
*About 20-25 drops.
The Mai Kai's spin on the classic Cobra's Fang. It's less sweet and more citrus-y with a bit less punch. Try both versions and see which you like the best.
Mix #79 Vampire's Fang
1.5oz Plantation OFTD rum 3/4oz grapefruit juice 1/2oz lime juice 1/2oz grenadine 1/4oz allspice dram 1 dash Angostura bitters
Shake with plenty of ice and pour into snifter glass.
From The Search for Tiki's 2022 13 Nights of Tiki Frights,it's citrus-y with a touch of spice. Much less sweet than the classic,it lives up to its namesake thanks to the overproof rum;it will bite you.
Mix #189 Sidewinder's Fang
1oz dark Jamaican rum 1oz demerara rum 1.5oz lime juice 1.5oz orange juice 1.5oz passionfruit syrup 3oz club soda
Shake everything except soda with ice and pour into large snifter glass. Add soda and stir.
From the former Lanai Restaurant in San Mateo,CA,this was created in the 1960's. It's tart and citrus-y with a sweet passionfruit finish. The three ounces of soda water it down a bit,if I were to do it again I would cut it in half. And interesting spin on the classic. If you're not into sweeter drinks, give it a try.
So enjoy a Fang drink, but don't put away your bottle of fassionola just yet. I'm working on a full post featuring the scarlet syrup.

Shark fighter! By the aquabats
You would think she fights against sharks, but no! Lo fights alongside sharks.
This is a quasi-mermaid AU, where instead of a cosmic magical girl with overwhelming power, Lo turns into a mermaid, specifically a Sandbar Shark mermaid, by the power of a magical shark tooth. She protects the ocean from sinister forces alongside merfolk and fauna alike, with the help of her adorably large sea bunny Benji. At the same time, she has a life to live on Lanai, helping her dad run his restaurant and setting a good example for her sister Kiana! It's a fun time, very summer anime.

Maui Brewing Company opens their third location, in the OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali Beach Resort
Press Release
Kihei, Hawaii (June 20, 2023) – Summer is sizzling around the beautiful islands of Hawaii, and Maui Brewing Company is fired up to announce that it will expand its operations on the island of Maui as the anchor restaurant at OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali Beach Resort.
Located directly on Kā‘anapali Beach – recently ranked as the No. 1 beach in the U.S. – the new Maui Brewing Co. restaurant is slated to open later this summer. Maui Brewing Company will conduct limited operations, slated to start sometime in early August. Ultimately, the restaurant group will also provide its island-inspired cuisine poolside, as well as room service and catering for large events on the resort grounds.
Fiercely local and handcrafted with aloha, Maui Brewing Company is committed to bringing a unique food and beverage offering to the Kā‘anapali community. The restaurant will feature expansive outdoor lanai seating, an open-air interior and family-friendly vibe that celebrates the brewery’s history, passion for the craft-beer way of life and of course, its Maui roots.
"Having grown up on Maui's west side and spending a ton of time in Kā‘anapali makes bringing the 'craft beer way of life' here extra special,” said Chris Thibaut, President and CEO, Maui Brewing Company Restaurants. "Our plans to offer a unique and high-energy beachfront venue for locals and visitors alike are fully underway and we can't wait to get up and running this summer! We're stoked to have a second location on the west side, along with our original location in Kahana where our history began. Our original restaurant in Kahana is also slated for remodel in 2024."
Eventually, Maui Brewing Company will offer up to 36 craft and specialty beers on tap, including Maui Brewing year-round and specialty releases, and craft beers from other small breweries. The cuisine will feature fresh ingredients that highlight the flavors of the islands, utilizing the abundance of local produce, meats and seafood available in Hawai‘i.
In addition to its stellar, award-winning food and beverage offerings, Maui Brewing Company’s sustainability initiatives are equally impressive. Solar panels cover the roof of the 85,000-sq-ft grid-independent production facility. It regularly sends spent grain to farms for cattle and even participates in grass roots eco-activities such as creating beach clean-up kits to keep the coast clean.
Most recently, Maui Brewing announced its transition to new, more recyclable packaging for all their products — not only limited to craft beer but also including Maui Brewing’s Island Sodas, Maui Hard Seltzer, and Kupu Spirits. The company looks forward to offering its unique products at OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali Beach Resort and furthering the storied history of this remarkable location.

Travel place Idea 2023
Maui
Maui is a small island in Hawaii, with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. It's a popular tourist destination for its beauty and variety of activities. You can enjoy breathtaking views from the top of Haleakala volcano or hike through rainforest trails on the slopes of Haleakala.
Maui has some amazing waterfalls like Wailea Falls or Wailua Falls which are both part of the Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuge (HINWR). You can also visit Lana'i or Lanai if you want to see some more beautiful beaches like Black Rock Beach or Kukuiula Beach Park where people come here during summer months because there is no waves so it's very safe for swimming too!
Another great place to visit while staying in Maui would be Wailea Golf Club where there are lots more things besides just playing golfing games such as tennis courts where players get together after they finish their day’s play; facility includes catering services available 24 hours per day seven days per week including bar service available at various locations throughout property during normal business hours only not available off-site due to liability issues associated with serving alcohol outside licensed premises when customers aren't present within immediate proximity so please make sure everyone behaves responsibly before drinking any alcoholic beverages
alaska
Alaska is the 49th state of the United States and one of the largest, most mountainous, and least densely populated states in the United States. It has been named by Lonely Planet as one of its top 10 destinations for 2019. You can visit this beautiful place by flying to Anchorage or Fairbanks or even by driving through Denali National Park and Preserve.
iceland
Iceland is a country in northern Europe. It's made up of many islands and volcanoes, so it has a lot of natural beauty to offer.
Iceland is home to some of the best hiking trails in all of Europe, as well as some fantastic restaurants and bars that serve traditional Icelandic dishes like whale meat and puffin eggs (which are served on toast). You'll also find plenty of waterfalls if you're looking for something more adventurous than just relaxing by the pool with your friends!
Maldives
Maldives is an island country in the Indian Ocean. It is situated between India and Sri Lanka, atolled by 1,192 coral islands (1,190 if you count the minor atolls). This tiny country has been known as “the land of water” since ancient times because of its vast amounts of water surrounding it.
Maldives offers tourists many things to do: diving with sharks and turtles; snorkeling on coral reefs; walking through tropical forests or exploring ancient temples; eating seafood cooked over coconut husks while taking in the beautiful scenery around you...
Monaco
Monaco is the second smallest country in the world. It has only about 324,000 people and it’s located on the coast of France.
Monaco has a lot of casinos and hotels, but it also has museums like The Musée National des Châteaux de Malmaison and Musée Guggenheim du Design.
france
France is a beautiful country that has many different cities and towns. It is an excellent place to visit if you are looking for culture, history, or even just some good food!
Here are some ideas for your trip:
Paris - Paris is one of the most famous cities in all of Europe. You can visit any one of the museums there and see amazing artworks from around the world! There’s also plenty more going on besides just sightseeing—you could check out some concerts or performances at Les Etoiles de la Rue (the Stars of La Rua), which offers theater performances throughout its three venues: Théâtre de la Bourse; Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier; and Studio Kino. Or if you have time left over after touring these places, why not take part in something like cycling through Montmartre? This hike will take about 2 hours roundtrip depending on how fast/slow paced you want your ride!
We should go traveling with my friends
Traveling with friends is a great way to have fun, relax and meet new people. It’s also an exciting experience that will make you feel like you are living life on your own terms.
Traveling by yourself can be very stressful if you don’t have anyone to share it with or take care of when things get tough. Traveling with other people who care about each other can help relieve some of this stress when traveling together as well as making sure everyone has what they need during their trip (food & water).
Conclusion
We hope this list of travel ideas has given you some inspiration for your next trip! We know that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to see, but these places offer something special for everyone. Whether it's the beautiful landscapes.

The city blends island charm with urban convenience, making everyday life both chill and practical. Surfing, hiking, and sunset strolls are part of the daily routine, while top-notch restaurants and shopping keep things exciting. Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail in Honolulu, HI
The Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail is a favorite for locals and visitors looking for an easy hike with amazing views. It’s a paved path that winds up the eastern side of Oahu, leading to a scenic lookout near the iconic red-roofed lighthouse. The hike isn’t too tough—it’s about two miles round trip and takes you along cliffs with stunning ocean views. On a clear day, you can even spot Molokai and Lanai in the distance. During the winter months, lucky hikers might catch a glimpse of humpback whales breaching offshore. The trail is sunny with little shade, so bringing water and sunscreen is a good idea. It’s perfect for a quick outdoor adventure without having to venture too far from Honolulu.

In this guide, we'll explore the options of studio rentals and rental homes in Honolulu, offering insights into the different experiences they provide and how they can cater to your specific needs and preferences.
Exploring studio rentals honolulu:
Studio rentals offer a cozy and compact living space ideal for solo travelers or couples looking for a budget-friendly option without sacrificing comfort or convenience. Here's what you can expect from studio rentals in Honolulu:
Prime Locations: Many studio rentals in Honolulu are strategically located in popular areas such as Waikiki, Ala Moana, or Downtown Honolulu. This means you'll have easy access to beaches, shopping centers, restaurants, and nightlife, allowing you to make the most of your time exploring the city.
Compact Living: Despite their smaller size, studio rentals in Honolulu are often well-designed to maximize space efficiency. You can expect to find all the essential amenities, including a fully-equipped kitchenette, a comfortable sleeping area, and a cozy living space, providing everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Affordable Pricing: Compared to larger accommodations like rental homes, studio rentals in Honolulu typically come at a more affordable price point, making them an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers or those looking to save on accommodation costs during their stay.

Rental homes offer a spacious and private retreat, perfect for families, groups of friends, or anyone looking for a home away from home experience in Honolulu. Here are some highlights of rental homes in Honolulu:

From full kitchens equipped with modern appliances to laundry facilities, Wi-Fi access, and entertainment options like cable TV or gaming consoles, rental homes provide all the comforts and conveniences of home.
Privacy and Seclusion: Unlike hotels or condos, rental homes in Honolulu offer a level of privacy and seclusion that's hard to beat. Whether you're lounging by the pool, enjoying a barbecue on the lanai, or simply unwinding in the comfort of your own space, rental homes provide a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Tips for Booking Studio Rentals and Rental Homes in Honolulu:
Start Early: Honolulu is a popular destination year-round, so it's best to start your search for studio rentals or rental homes well in advance, especially if you're planning to visit during peak travel seasons.
Consider Your Needs: Think about what amenities and features are important to you when choosing between studio rentals and rental homes. Whether it's proximity to attractions, space requirements, or specific amenities like a pool or ocean view, consider your needs and preferences to find the perfect accommodation.
